ASPHODEL — Asphodel Honey / Miele di Asfodelo

Asphodel is a rare monofloral honey of Sardinian origin — liquid as a drop, white as porcelain, and with a taste unlike any other honey in the world.

The plant that gave its name to a community

Asphodel is an herbaceous, rustic plant from the lily family, native to the Barbagia region but widespread throughout Sardinia. It is a plant of incredible strength — it blooms in the coldest months of the year, in February and March, and grows even in the most challenging soils, among rocks and stones, where other plants have no chance. Local shepherds consider it a weed bothering sheep — but for beekeepers, it is a precious reserve they desperately seek out every year. Its habitat changes from year to year, making beekeepers' lives harder than usual.

For bees, asphodel is essential after their winter rest: a good asphodel season means a strong start to the year for the ecological beekeeper, with full energy for their bees.

The Legend of Saint Joseph

Asphodel is also the plant of Saint Joseph. Legend has it that he held it in his hands when he was assigned to Mary — and when his marriage to her was announced, the flower suddenly bloomed in all its glory. For us, it represents the kind of miracle we strive to create every day: uniting a community of beekeepers with the dream of producing exclusively natural and healthy products — from bee health to the world's table.

A table honey that never hardens

Unlike most raw honeys, Asphodel almost never crystallizes — it remains clear, liquid, and smooth even without heating. It needs no preparation — just open and pour. No crystallization, no heating, no waiting. It is the ideal table honey for everyday use: in tea, coffee, yogurt, and for fine gastronomy.

Taste and aroma

The color is very light, almost white and crystalline. The taste is delicate, extraordinarily sweet and subtle — notes reminiscent of vanilla and citrus fruits like orange, all surrounded by a fantastic hint of almond blossoms. This honey will win over your palate with its aroma — sweet and citrusy at the same time. It is this delicacy that makes it so versatile: it does not overpower the taste of what it is served with, but complements it.

Origin and craftsmanship

Our honey is raw honey, unpasteurized and unheated — no processing is involved. The only ingredient is patience. When bees switch flowers, we must remove the honeycomb from the hives and extract the honey promptly so it doesn't mix with other nectars. It's hard work, but necessary for the honey to remain purely asphodel. It is harvested in small quantities by Arbarée and brought to the Czech Republic while maintaining full traceability of origin.

Origin in a Blue Zone

Sardinia is one of the world-renowned Blue Zones — areas where people live extraordinarily long and healthy lives. Asphodel comes from the unspoiled soils of this island, far from industry and intensive agriculture. Many centuries ago, the Arabs used it to treat scabies and ulcers.

Health benefits

- Energy regenerating: Excellent for restoring energy after illness or viral infection — contains a high percentage of minerals and vitamins. Particularly useful in winter to prevent sore throats.
- Soothing and antispasmodic: Acts on both the central and peripheral nervous systems — calms nervous tension and in some cases acts as an antispasmodic.
- Detoxifying: A valuable ally for the liver — helps eliminate heavy and harmful substances from the body.
- Antibacterial: Can be applied directly to inflamed areas — also helps with acne and psoriasis.
- Healing and decongestant: Aids healing processes and acts as an emollient and soothing agent for reddened areas.

Serving suggestions

- With fruit or fruit salads — the delicate taste of honey won't overpower the fruit's flavor
- With milder cheeses (ricotta, young Pecorino, goat cheese)
- With goat yogurt — a classic combination that never disappoints
- For the adventurous: try combining it with fish
- In tea or coffee instead of sugar — dissolves instantly
